PSX investor base surpasses 600,000 for first time: Finance Ministry

ISLAMABAD, Aug 6 (APP): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has crossed the milestone of 600,000 investors for the first time in its history, with the total investor base reaching 607,025 in July 2026, reflecting growing confidence in Pakistan’s capital markets, the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday.
In a statement, the ministry said July also recorded the second-highest monthly increase in investor accounts in the history of the PSX, with 23,973 new investors joining the market.
It said the investor base had expanded by more than 332,000 since June 2022, rising from 275,000 to 607,025, representing an increase of 121 percent over the period.
According to the ministry, the pace of investor growth has accelerated significantly, with average monthly additions increasing from around 2,300 during FY23 and FY24 to 5,300 in FY25 and 15,860 in FY26, marking the strongest momentum in the history of the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The statement noted that the latest surge in investor participation was being driven largely by Generation Z and first-time retail investors, indicating increasing public confidence in Pakistan’s capital markets and expanding participation in formal investment avenues.
The ministry said the record growth represented more than a numerical milestone, describing it as a structural shift in investor behaviour, with an increasing number of Pakistanis choosing to invest, build wealth and contribute to the country’s economic future.
It added that the broadening investor base and rising participation by a new generation of investors underscored the deepening of Pakistan’s capital markets and reflected growing confidence in the country’s economic outlook.
