PSX extends losses, sheds nearly 495 points

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (APP):The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued with bearish trend on Thursday, losing 495.00 points, a negative change of 0.28 percent, to close at 175,547.98 points against 176,042.99 points recorded in the previous trading session.
The ready market witnessed a trading volume of 711.201 million shares, compared to 574.076 million shares traded on Wednesday, while the traded value slightly increased to Rs25.396 billion from Rs25.369 billion. Market capitalisation declined to Rs19.718 trillion from Rs19.778 trillion recorded a day earlier.
Out of 495 companies that traded in the ready market, 175 posted gains, 279 suffered losses, while 41 remained unchanged, reflecting a predominantly bearish trend across the market.
Trust Brokerage led the volume chart with 176.884 million shares, followed by WorldCall Telecom with 32.314 million shares and Pak Int. Bulk with 32.125 million shares.
Among the top gainers, PIA Holding Company LimitedB surged by Rs325.32 to close at Rs18,000.00, while Bhanero Textile Mills Limited advanced by Rs78.92 to settle at Rs879.00.
On the losing side, Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited declined by Rs179.99 to close at Rs25,300.01, while Khairpur Sugar Mills Limited fell by Rs93.79 to Rs1,109.65.
In the futures (DFC) market, turnover stood at 382.309 million shares with a traded value of Rs17.732 billion, compared with 400.821 million shares worth Rs18.079 billion in the previous session.
Of the 303 companies traded in the futures market, 74 advanced, 220 declined and nine remained unchanged.
