PSX extends bearish trend, sheds over 254 points

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP):The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued its bearish trend on Thursday, losing 254.59 points, a negative change of 0.14 percent, to close at 176,591.77 points against 176,846.36 points recorded in the previous trading session.
The ready market witnessed a trading volume of 665.194 million shares, compared to 787.894 million shares traded in the previous session, while the traded value decreased to Rs30.792 billion from Rs39.568 billion.
Market capitalisation declined to Rs19.787 trillion from Rs19.815 trillion recorded a day earlier.
Out of 492 companies that traded in the ready market, 144 posted gains, 312 suffered losses, while 36 remained unchanged, reflecting continued selling pressure across the market.
Cnergyico PK led the volume chart with 221.431 million shares, followed by F. Nat.Equities with 25.116 million shares and Globe Residency with 18.821 million shares.
Among the top gainers, PIA Holding Company LimitedB surged by Rs197.00 to close at Rs17,797.00, while Sazgar Engineering Works Limited advanced by Rs127.76 to settle at Rs1,880.04.
On the losing side, Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited declined by Rs113.97 to close at Rs25,160.00, while Sapphire Fibres Limited fell by Rs39.72 to Rs1,053.02.
In the futures (DFC) market, turnover stood at 146.304 million shares with a traded value of Rs8.308 billion, compared with 182.776 million shares worth Rs10.709 billion in the previous session.
Of the 311 companies traded in the DFC market, 82 advanced, 223 declined, and 6 remained unchanged.
