Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Wednesday elected its new office-bearers for the 2026–28 term, with the new leadership committed to strengthening Pakistan’s apparel exports and competitiveness in an increasingly demanding global market.

LAHORE, Sep 30 (APP): Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Wednesday elected its new office-bearers for the 2026–28 term, with the new leadership committed to strengthening Pakistan’s apparel exports and competitiveness in an increasingly demanding global market.
As per election results, Sohail Afzal Sheikh has been elected as Central Chairman, PRGMEA, while Aamir Lakhani has been elected as Senior Vice Chairman and Ansar Aziz Puri as Vice Chairman for the 2026–28 term.
The newly elected leadership was congratulated by members and representatives of the apparel and business community by expressing their best wishes for a successful tenure.
Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Afzal Sheikh said that industry is entering a period of significant transformation, with sustainability, digitalisation, traceability, changing trade policies and evolving buyer requirements becoming increasingly important for global competitiveness.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s apparel industry must prepare for emerging requirements such as the EU Digital Product Passport (DPP) and broader sustainability and supply-chain compliance requirements. He stressed the importance of investment in energy efficiency, renewable energy, resource efficiency, decarbonisation and digital systems to maintain and expand access to international markets.
He also highlighted the importance of protecting and strengthening GSP Plus market access, addressing the impact of US tariffs, diversifying export markets and improving ease of doing business through competitive energy costs, timely refunds and rebates, streamlined regulations, improved access to finance and efficient trade facilitation.
Sohail further said that PRGMEA will continue to strengthen its international engagement, including through its delegation to COP31 in Antalya, Turkiye, where the Association will further highlight the priorities and perspectives of Pakistan’s apparel industry on climate action, textile decarbonisation and sustainable global supply chains.
Aamir Lakhani, Senior Vice Chairman, and Ansar Aziz Puri, Vice Chairman, expressed their commitment to working closely with PRGMEA members, government institutions and stakeholders to address industry challenges, strengthen exports and create new opportunities for the apparel sector.
The new leadership will focus on export growth, policy advocacy, market access, sustainability, digital transformation, competitiveness and industry-government collaboration, while continuing PRGMEA’s efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global apparel value chain.
The Association looks forward to building on its ongoing initiatives and working collectively with its members and stakeholders to address emerging challenges and unlock new opportunities for Pakistan’s apparel industry during the 2026–28 term.
