President ICCI calls on Minister of State for Interior

President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia, Thursday, called on Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and conveyed the chamber’s concern over the arrest of traders on the pretext of using plastic bags.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (APP): President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia, Thursday, called on Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and conveyed the chamber’s concern over the arrest of traders on the pretext of using plastic bags.
They urged the minister to stop such arrests, and urged the need for a balanced and awareness-based approach to implementation of the policy, said a press release issued by ICCI.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry patiently heard the concerns of the business community and directed the concerned authorities to stop arrests.
He assured the ICCI delegation that an awareness campaign would be launched to educate traders and the public about the relevant regulations and promote compliance through cooperation rather than enforcement.
It was further agreed that the use of plastic bags would be allowed for essential perishable items such as milk, curd and meat, in accordance with the applicable government policy.
The ICCI leadership appreciated the Minister’s positive response and emphasized that effective environmental measures should be implemented through consultation, awareness and facilitation.
The IÇCI delegation also included Execitive members Umer Hussain Malik, Shoaib Zafar and Presidend Islamabad Industrial Association Mohammad Omais Khattak.
