PFC demands industry status for furniture sector

LAHORE, Mar 01 (APP):Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq Sunday demanded of the government to grant formal industry status to furniture sector unlocking its true export potential.
Chairing the PFC Board of Directors meeting here, he said, Pakistan possesses immense talent, skilled artisans, and abundant raw material in furniture sector but it still continues to struggle in the absence of structured industrial recognition. “Granting industry status to furniture sector will facilitate access to bank financing, subsidized energy tariffs, modern machinery imports, and policy incentives similar to other export-oriented industries. This step will not only enhance productivity and quality standards but also enable local manufacturers to compete effectively in international markets,” he elaborated.
Mian Kashif Ashfaq added, the furniture sector has the capacity to significantly increase exports, generate employment opportunities, and attract foreign investment. He urged policymakers to prioritize the sector in upcoming economic reforms, stating that a vibrant furniture industry could play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable economic growth and export-led development for Pakistan.
