Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves surge over $ 21b

KARACHI, Dec 18 (APP): The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan surged to US$ 21,089 million while the reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan increased to $ 15,886.8 million.
“During the week ended on 12-Dec-2025, SBP’s FX reserves increased by US$ 1,300 million to US$ 15,886.8 million,” the central bank reported on Thursday in its weekly statement on the position of liquid foreign reserves.
The SBP attributed the increase in its foreign exchange reserves during the week mainly to the receipt of about US$ 1.2 billion (equivalent to SDR 914 million) received from the IMF under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
Meanwhile, the net foreign reserves held by the commercial banks also increased by $ 176.5 million to $ 5,202.2 million, the break up of forex reserves for the period under review depicted.
Total liquid foreign reserves held by the country in the previous week ended on December 05, 2025 were 19,612.2 million. Among them the central bank held foreign exchange reserves of $ 14,586.5 million while the commercial banks held $ 5,025.7 million.
