LCCI welcomes govt’s step to resolve transporters’ issues

LAHORE, Dec 08 (APP): Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Monday welcomed the government’s decision to form a committee to resolve the concerns of the transport community through dialogue.

LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol, Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, and Vice President Khurram Lodhi told media here that business and transport sectors are deeply linked, and together they keep the economic wheel moving. Therefore, solving transporters’ problems is a key need of the time.

LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol said, the transport sector is backbone of the economy. If this sector faces difficulties because of unnecessary fines, cases, or administrative pressure, it negatively affects the entire trade and industry system. He added that LCCI strongly raised its voice for the rights of the transport community. A detailed press conference was also held at the chamber to demand immediate action from the government regarding amendments to the traffic ordinance, withdrawal of FIRs, reduction of heavy fines, and addressing other key issues.

He further said it is encouraging that the government has shown seriousness by suspending the ordinance and forming a committee consisting of all stakeholders so that issues can be resolved through talks instead of confrontation. He said that from the very beginning, LCCI has believed that durable solutions are only possible through negotiation and mutual understanding.

The LCCI office-bearers said, the Chamber will continue to extend full support through its platform and hoped that the committee meetings will move towards positive results. They said that both the transporters and the government must understand each other’s viewpoints and devise a formula that improves the traffic system while also protecting the transport sector from unnecessary burden.

They added that in the current economic situation, it is essential that the movement of goods-carrying vehicles remains smooth. If the transporters’ issues are resolved, trade activities will continue without disruption, which will benefit the national economy.

The LCCI office-bearers expressed confidence that the ongoing talks between the government, transporters, and relevant departments will soon deliver positive results and lead to a permanent solution for the transport sector’s issues, contributing to stability in national trade and industry.
