KP Food Dept supplies 417,168 bags of flour to consumers

PESHAWAR, Oct 05 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Department has released details of flour distribution at government rates during the last week, according to which 417,168 bags of flour were supplied to consumers across the province through 1,611 active flour dealers.
According to the details released by the Food Department, 101,955 flour bags were distributed in Peshawar Division, 59,389 in Mardan Division, and 120,737 in Malakand Division during the last week.
Similarly, 38,129 bags were supplied in Hazara Division, 12,588 in Bannu, 41,688 in Dera Ismail Khan Division, and 42,682 in Kohat Division at government rates.
The Food Department said that 3,000 metric tons of government wheat are being released daily to flour mills from the provincial strategic reserve of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The 20-kilogram government-rate flour bag is being provided to consumers through selected dealers at a price of Rs. 2,520.
The department further stated that fines have been imposed on eight flour mills for violations of SOPs. Teams of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority and the Food Department are regularly monitoring the quality of wheat and flour.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Food, Dr. Muhammad Israr Khan, has urged citizens to remain vigilant about the quality of flour produced from government wheat and immediately report any supply of substandard flour.
He said that the government wheat quota of any flour mill found supplying substandard flour would be cancelled, besides initiating legal action against the mill.
The Special Assistant said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was taking all possible measures to ensure the provision of quality and affordable flour to the people, while continuous monitoring was also being carried out to ensure proper flour supply, quality standards, and compliance with SOPs by flour mills.
