KP Food Authority cracks down on fake, substandard beverages

PESHAWAR, Jun 05 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) carried out major enforcement operations in Peshawar and Nowshera, seizing large quantities of fake, substandard and unhygienic food products and imposing fines on violators.
According to a spokesperson for the authority, food safety teams inspected various food businesses in Tehkal, Nasir Bagh Road and Ring Road areas of Peshawar.
During the inspections, officials recovered and destroyed 500 litres of unhygienic and substandard soda water from a production unit.
In a separate action, 500 litres of counterfeit energy drink branded as “Sting” were recovered from a warehouse and taken into custody. Fines were imposed on the businesses involved, while further legal proceedings have been initiated.
Meanwhile, in Nowshera, food safety teams inspected four factories and several other food establishments. Multiple businesses were fined for violating hygiene regulations and dealing in substandard food products.
The spokesperson said that nearly 5,000 kilograms of poor-quality and unsafe food items, including milk, ice cream, syrups, samosa filling and roll filling, were seized and destroyed during the operations to ensure the availability of safe and quality food for consumers.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food, Dr Muhammad Israr Khan, said that indiscriminate action against those endangering public health would continue across the province.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating the sale and production of substandard and hazardous food products and ensuring the provision of safe, quality and halal food to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through all available resources.
