ISLAMABAD, Jun 5 (APP):Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Haroon Akhtar Khan here on Thursday directed all relevant departments to commence urgent repair and construction work of Chashma Right Bank Canal without delay.
The move aims to mitigate further damage and restore essential infrastructure in the affected areas, the assistant said while chairing an important meeting regarding the repair and strengthening of the Chashma Right Bank Canal infrastructure at Dera Ismail Khan.
According to press release, the participants discussed the serious issue of leakages observed at distributaries 14 and 15 near Head Jumma, along with the fragile and unreinforced canal banks posing a high risk of further deterioration.
Haroon said, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had always prioritized the issues faced by farmers and the Chashma Right Bank Canal was a critical source of irrigation water for a large number of agricultural communities.
He termed the issue as grave and stressed that both farmers and industries — the backbone of the national economy — were being adversely affected. He emphasized that the problem must be resolved on an urgent basis.
Recognizing the need for coordinated oversight and efficient implementation, he constituted a high-level committee to monitor the ongoing efforts.
The committee included representatives from WAPDA, Sikander Khan, and senior officials from the Food, Agriculture, Industries, and Irrigation Departments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure steady progress and provide regular updates on the repair and rehabilitation operations. Their involvement is expected to streamline inter-departmental coordination and uphold accountability in the process.
