FDA inks MoU with UMT Lahore for strengthening collaboration

Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) and University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore have formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration between academia and the public sector, with a focus on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience.

FAISALABAD, Apr 25 (APP):Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) and University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore have formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration between academia and the public sector, with a focus on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience.
On the directions of FDA Director General, the Chief Engineer Mehr Ayub and Dean School of Engineering UMT Muhammad Farhat Kaleem signed the MoU on behalf of their institutes during a formal ceremony.
Under terms of the agreement, the engineering students from UMT will be provided structured opportunities to undertake summer internships at FDA.
Chief Engineer FDA Mehr Ayub said that the internship is designed to immerse students in ongoing development and infrastructure projects, enabling them to acquire hands-on experience, enhance their technical competencies, and develop a deeper understanding of professional practices within the public sector.
He said that beyond internship placements, the MoU establishes a comprehensive framework for long-term cooperation between the two institutions.
He informed that key areas of collaboration include joint research initiatives, exchange of technical expertise, organization of seminars and workshops, and the execution of industry-oriented projects addressing real-world urban planning and infrastructure challenges.
The officials from UMT and FDA highlighted that this partnership reflects a shared vision of fostering innovation, capacity building, and sustainable development.
They emphasized that by aligning academic research with practical implementation, the collaboration will not only enrich student learning outcomes but also contribute to the development of efficient, forward-looking solutions in city planning and public infrastructure management.
FDA Chief Engineer said that this strategic alliance represents a significant milestone in promoting meaningful engagement between higher education institutions and government bodies.
He hoped that it is expected to open new avenues for future collaborations, strengthen institutional linkages, and support the cultivation of a skilled workforce equipped to meet the evolving demands of the development sector.
