Digital transformation key to sustainable growth: Finance Minister

ISLAMABAD, Sep 23 (APP): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday highlighted digital transformation as a key driver for Pakistan’s transition from economic stabilization to sustainable economic growth.

Addressing the Digital Cooperation Organization’s (DCO) High-Level Ministerial Dialogue during his visit to New York to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the minister emphasized the development of digital public infrastructure and expansion of cashless payments, said a press release.

He said greater connectivity should be accompanied by up-skilling and re-skilling initiatives to enable freelancers and other digital workers to move towards higher-value services.

The Finance Minister also highlighted the widespread adoption of virtual assets and outlined Pakistan’s ongoing work on legislation, oversight and licensing in the sector.

He noted that virtual assets could have practical applications beyond cryptocurrency, including facilitating cheaper and more seamless remittances and exploring the potential for tokenization of public debt and real estate.

Senator Aurangzeb called for enhanced cooperation among DCO member states to share successful approaches and attract greater investment in the digital economy.
