DataFeast aiming to foster a culture of data literacy, transparency

ISLAMABAD, Nov 4 (APP): Chief Statistician Dr Naeem uz Zafar on Tuesday said that the DataFest 2025 is not just a celebration of statistics, but a national movement to empower citizens, policymakers and institutions through accessible and actionable data, aiming to foster a culture of data literacy, transparency and informed decision-making.
Briefing the media to outline the strategic communication goals and media engagement plans for the upcoming DataFest 2025, he highlighted the importance of media as a bridge between data users and producers, said a press release issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
He emphasized the critical role of data in addressing Pakistan’s pressing challenges, including governance, development, and public service delivery. He expressed commitment to promoting public awareness around data-driven innovation and evidence-based policy making.
Muhammad Sarwar Gondal (SI), Member (SS/RM), presented the strategic vision for DataFest 2025, emphasizing its role in promoting innovation, public engagement and policy impact. DataFest 2025 aligns with the URAAN Pakistan and its 5Es framework— Environment, Economy, Equity, E-Pakistan & Energy by advancing digital transformation and inclusive data access.
He highlighted Pakistan’s growing capabilities in data science and AI, particularly in predictive analytics and evidence-based governance. He stated that Pakistan is embracing AI and data science to drive inclusive, tech-powered development.
The vision placed on the extensive use of PBS datasets, including the Population and Housing Census 2023, Agriculture Census, and Economic Census, to strengthen data-driven decision-making. DataFest 2025 provide a comprehensive platform aimed at fostering national and international collaboration, integrating Big Data and AI-driven solutions, strengthening academia–policy partnerships.
PBS also conducted a Flood Survey to assess the extent of damage and support targeted relief and rehabilitation efforts for affected communities. He also motivated media representatives to fully participate in DataFest 2025, stressing that their coverage and story telling would be instrumental in amplifying the reach and success of the initiative.
PBS also announced several launch events during DataFest 2025, showcasing new data platforms and analytical tools designed to enhance accessibility and usability for both policymakers and the public. The event will feature high-level keynote addresses, expert panels, interactive workshops and training sessions tailored to various sectors, intra university quiz, poster and project display competitions.
