Customs foils multiple smuggling attempts worth Rs 74.4 mln in KP

ISLAMABAD, Dec 07 (APP): The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Peshawar, has successfully thwarted several major smuggling attempts, seizing goods estimated Rs 74.4 million during a series of coordinated anti-smuggling operations conducted across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a significant operation, the Enforcement Division D.I. Khan intercepted three trucks transporting 12,200 kg of smuggled betel nuts, 4,021 sleeves of foreign-origin cigarettes, and 170 tyres. The goods, along with the offending vehicles having a total estimated value of Rs. 54.5 million were seized, said a news release.
In another action, the Enforcement Division D.I. Khan confiscated various non-duty-paid cosmetics including hand and face creams, lotions, shampoos, and petroleum jellies recovered from different passenger conveyances. These goods are valued at Rs 2.4 million.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar Division seized two non-duty-paid vehicles, one Toyota Vitz and one Toyota Aqua, with a combined value of approximately Rs8 million.
Similarly, the Anti-Smuggling Directorate (ASD) Nowshera intercepted a JAC Pickup loaded with 2,000 sleeves of smuggled cigarettes, seizing both the goods and the vehicle. This case carries an assessed value of Rs 9.5 million.
These anti smuggling operations of Pakistan Customs in KP and across the country reaffirm the FBR’s commitment to curbing smuggling and safeguarding the national economy.
