Current Account records $1.9 billion surplus in 10 months of FY25: SBP

KARACHI, May 16 (APP):Pakistan’s External Current Account Balance recorded a surplus of US$ 1.88 billion during July to April 2024-25 as compared to a deficit of $ 1.34 billion during the first 10 months of previous fiscal year.
The Current Account for the month of April 2025 recorded a surplus of $ 12 million in comparison to a surplus of $ 1.20 billion in March 2025 and a surplus of $ 315 million in April 2024, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported on Friday.
The cumulative balance in trade of goods during July to April 2024-25, according to the provisional figures released by the central bank, recorded a deficit of $ 21.343 billion as compared to $ 17.975 billion deficit in the corresponding period of FY 23-24.
The balance on Trade in goods during April 2025 was recorded as $ 2.626 billion as compared to a deficit of $ 2.17 billion in March 2025 and $ 1.81 billion in April 2024, the data depicted.
Balance on trade of services in July-April FY 24-25 has recorded a deficit of $ 2.497 billion as compared to $ 2.402 billion deficit during 10 months of FY 23-24, the data shown adding that in April 2025 services’ trade deficit was recorded as $ 188 million as compared to $ 217 million deficit in March 2025 and $ 220 million deficit during April 2024.
The overall trade deficit in both goods and services was recorded as $ 23.84 billion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year in comparison to the deficit of $ 20.377 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
In the month of April 2025, the overall deficit in trade of goods and services was recorded as $ 2.814 billion as compared to the deficit of $ 2.387 billion in March 2025 and the deficit of $ 2 billion during April 24.
The Balance on Primary Income recorded a deficit of $ 7.127 billion during July-April 2024-25 against a deficit of $ 6.324 billion in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, the SBP data showed.
The inflow of workers’ remittances during the first 10 months of FY 2024-25, has recorded as $ 31.21 billion in comparison to $ 23.851 billion inflows in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Meanwhile, the Balance on Secondary Income during July-April 24-25 was recorded as $ 32.847 billion against $ 25.364 billion in the first ten months of FY 23-24, the SBP data showed.
