Current Account Balance records $139 million deficit in FY26: SBP

Pakistan’s External Current Account Balance recorded a deficit of US$ 139 million during the fiscal year 2025-26 compared to a surplus of $1,838 million in the previous fiscal year 2024-25. 

KARACHI, Jul 17 (APP): Pakistan’s External Current Account Balance recorded a deficit of US$ 139 million during the fiscal year 2025-26 compared to a surplus of $1,838 million in the previous fiscal year 2024-25.
Current Account Balance (CAB) recorded a deficit of $649 million in June 2026 compared to a surplus of $500 million in May 2026, and a surplus of $220 million in June 2025, the State Bank of Pakistan Friday reported in the monthly summary of Balance of Payments.
The cumulative balance in trade of goods during July-June FY26 recorded a deficit of $ 33,623 million, according to the provisional figures released by the central bank, as compared to $ 26,803 million deficit in FY24-25.
The balance on Trade in goods during June 2026 has recorded a deficit of $ 3,552 million as compared to a deficit of $ 3,283 million in May 2026 and $ 2,429 million in June 2025, the data depicted.
Balance on trade in services during July-June FY26 has recorded a deficit of $ 1,891 million as compared to $ 2,836 million deficit of July-June FY25, the data shown, however in June 2026 services’ trade posted a surplus of $ 25 million in comparison to $ 54 million surplus in May 2026 and $ 204 million deficit in June 2025.
The overall trade deficit in both goods and services reached at $ 35,514 million during FY26 in comparison to the deficit of $ 29,639 million during FY25. In June 2026, the overall deficit in trade of goods and services was recorded as $ 3,527 million as compared to the deficit of $ 3,229 million in May 2026 and the deficit of $ 2,633 million in June 2025.
The Balance on Primary Income recorded a deficit of $ 8,438 million during July-June FY26 against a deficit of $ 8,838 million in the corresponding period of last fiscal year, the SBP data showed.
The inflow of workers’ remittances from overseas during FY26, has recorded as $ 41,585 million in comparison to $ 38,300 million inflows in FY25. Inflow of remittances in June 2026 was recorded as $ 3,475 million in comparison to $ 4,252 million in May 26 and $ 3,406 million inflows of June 2025.
Meanwhile, the Balance on Secondary Income during the entire fiscal year 2025-26 has recorded a surplus of $ 43,813 million as compared to a surplus of $ 40,315 million during July-June FY25, the SBP data showed.
