ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (APP):Federal Minister for Board of Investment (BOI), Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has emphasized the need to strengthen Pakistan’s economy through enhanced investment, innovation, and export-led growth, urging the business community to play a leading role in driving sustainable development.
Addressing the 17th Edition of the Brand of the Year Awards 2026 as the chief guest, the minister said the event provided an important platform to recognize and encourage the valuable contributions of Pakistan’s business sector, said a release issued here on Tuesday.
“Coming from a family with a long history in business, I firmly believe that entrepreneurs are the backbone of economic development. We must promote Pakistan globally as a competitive destination for business and investment,” he said.
Highlighting the country’s economic challenges, the minister stressed the importance of creating sustainable business opportunities and generating employment to uplift living standards.
“With a significant segment of the population living below the poverty line, our focus should be on expanding economic opportunities, creating jobs, and equipping our youth with quality education, particularly in technology and modern skills,” he remarked.
Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh underscored the need to boost exports and improve the ease of doing business, saying the government was undertaking reforms aimed at removing unnecessary barriers and facilitating investment.
He noted that incentives available under Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including tax concessions and industrial facilitation measures, were designed to expand industrial activity and create new avenues for economic growth.
The minister expressed confidence in Pakistan’s entrepreneurial talent and workforce, describing them as key drivers of national progress.
“Pakistan possesses a capable business community and a competitive workforce that can make a significant contribution to the country’s economic development,” he said.
During the ceremony, the minister distributed awards among winning brands in recognition of their excellence and consumer trust. Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Brands Foundation Pakistan, Shaikh Rashid Alam, presented a commemorative shield to the chief guest.
Organized annually by the Brands Foundation Pakistan, the Brand of the Year Awards are regarded as one of the country’s most prestigious recognitions, honoring leading brands on the basis of consumer preference and expert evaluation.
The Board of Investment remains committed to promoting Pakistan as a preferred destination for local and foreign investment through investor facilitation, policy reforms, and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable economic growth.
