ISLAMABAD, Oct 15 (APP): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday met United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed on the sidelines of the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, and discussed development financing, debt issues and climate resilience.
During the meeting, the finance minister discussed strengthening the Borrowers’ Forum through peer learning, continuity in governance and an effective virtual secretariat, a news release said here.
He emphasised the need for a stronger voice for the Global South and more responsive international financial institutions.
Both sides stressed the need for adequate financing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, reduce poverty, strengthen social protection, and create decent jobs.
The discussions also covered gaps in climate financing, simplifying access to funds and building capacity to develop bankable projects.
Aurangzeb highlighted the importance of local-currency financing to reduce exchange-rate risks, alongside accountable domestic policymaking.
He also thanked Amina for appreciating Pakistan’s mediation efforts during the recent US-Iran crisis.
