Aurangzeb calls for translating climate commitments into tangible results

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday stressed the need for translating climate commitments into tangible projects and measurable outcomes that deliver concrete benefits to communities.

The minister, who is in New York as part of Pakistan’s high-level delegation headed by the Prime Minister to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, made these remarks while participating in the Climate Implementation Bridge (BRIDGE) event on the fourth day of his engagements during the UNGA High-Level Week, a Finance Ministry news release said here.

Aurangzeb identified three key requirements for effective climate implementation, including a sound policy framework, access to finance and the capacity to deliver projects at the country level.

He highlighted Pakistan’s progress in strengthening its climate policy framework and efforts to mobilize financing through domestic resources, international financial institutions, capital markets and climate funds.

The finance minister noted that institutional fragmentation and a shortage of investable and bankable projects continued to hinder effective implementation.

Referring to the devastating floods of 2022, he observed that some international support remained unutilized despite generous pledges, underscoring the importance of developing suitable projects and strengthening implementation capacity at the country level.

Welcoming Pakistan’s participation in BRIDGE, Aurangzeb urged partners to build consensus around practical “no-regret” decisions that could help move the initiative from dialogue to action.

He stressed the importance of translating climate commitments into concrete projects and measurable outcomes to ensure that climate action delivered tangible benefits for communities.

The finance minister’s engagements during the UNGA High-Level Week have underscored Pakistan’s continued focus on strengthening climate resilience, mobilizing resources for climate action and building effective international partnerships to support implementation on the ground.
