QUETTA, Oct 06 (APP): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday said that police are playing key role in war against terrorism with the aim to maintain durable peace in the province.
He said that all possible support would be provided to enhance their operational capacity of police for interest of peace and development of Balochistan.
He said this while presiding over a meeting here, in which discussed for making the province’s security and policing systems more effective and modern.
The meeting included a detailed review of the overall security situation, police reforms, the use of modern technology, and measures to tackle the challenges posed by terrorism.
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Hamza Shafqat and Inspector General of Police (Balochistan) Muhammad Tahir Khan provided detailed briefings on the security situation, the policing system, departmental reforms, and security measures.
It was decided during the meeting to launch the ‘Quetta Integrated Security Project’ to align the province’s security and policing systems with modern requirements.
The briefing revealed that 2,900 cameras would be installed across the city under the ‘Quetta Green Digital Corridor’ initiative to enhance the effectiveness of the security surveillance system.
It was also stated that new stations for the Quick Response Force (QRF) would be established under the project to ensure a swift and effective response to any emergency situation.
In the meeting said that the operational capacity of security agencies will be enhanced through the use of modern technology and an integrated command-and-control system.
The meeting was also apprised of the ongoing reforms within the Balochistan Police and the process of departmental self-accountability. The briefing revealed that 871 police personnel have been dismissed for absenteeism and negligence of duty, while the services of 1,005 officers previously deployed with various dignitaries have been returned to the police department.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the police play a pivotal role in the war against terror, with personnel standing on the front lines and sacrificing their lives for the peace of the country and the province.
He directed that the police would be provided with modern training, essential equipment, and all necessary resources to tackle current challenges related to terrorism.
The Chief Minister affirmed that since the police have been deployed to the field against terrorism, they would receive full backing; the provincial government stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its brave police and security forces, and every possible support to be extended to enhance police operational capacity.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti maintained that the aim of reforming the policing system is to make the institution stronger, more accountable, and public-friendly, there would be no compromise on departmental discipline and accountability; negligence and absenteeism to be discouraged, while personnel demonstrating good performance would be encouraged.
The Chief Minister said that the province’s limited resources would be utilized for public welfare through better management and the setting of priorities saying that by curbing non-development expenditures, available resources to be spent on meeting the basic needs and ensuring the welfare of the public.
He emphasized the need to work for the common man of Balochistan, the one who shivers in the biting cold and swelters in the scorching heat, the focus of all government policies and initiatives is to ensure the protection and convenience of the ordinary citizen and to improve their quality of life.
