Meeting of PPAF and BRSP held, discussed livestock projects in Balochistan

QUETTA, Jun 23 (APP):A coordination meeting was jointly organized by Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), and Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) to discuss the progress of livestock sector in the province.
District Livestock Officers (DLOs) of the Livestock and Dairy Development Department appreciated the European Union (EU), PPAF, BRSP for their efforts in strengthening the livestock sector under the post-floods resilient recovery and strengthening livestock sector in Balochistan.
The meeting was led by CEO BRSP, Dr. Tahir Rasheed, and Provincial Lead and Project Director PPAF Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Rehman Khan. Participants were briefed on the project’s background, objectives, key interventions, and expected outcomes aimed at enhancing the resilience of the livestock sector in the aftermath of the 2022 floods.
The project focuses on improving sustainable livestock production and productivity through climate-resilient approaches, creating livelihood opportunities with a special focus on youth and women, and strengthening livestock value chains and market linkages in Balochistan.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. Tahir Rasheed highlighted the importance of the livestock sector in Balochistan’s economy and emphasized the need for strong collaboration between development partners and government institutions.
He appreciated the support of the Government of Balochistan, European Union and PPAF, noting that value addition, institutional strengthening, and climate adaptation are essential for sustainable sector growth.
Dr. Abdul Rehman Khan provided an overview of PPAF’s role, its multidimensional poverty graduation approach, and key initiatives under the EU-funded livestock project within the framework of the Balochistan livestock policy.
He emphasized that community-based interventions are central to the project and highlighted the critical role of the Livestock Department in ensuring effective implementation at the grassroots level.
The District Livestock Officers appreciated the initiative and termed it highly relevant for the socio-economic uplift of flood-affected communities in Balochistan. They acknowledged the efforts of the EU, PPAF, and BRSP and assured their full technical support for the effective implementation of project activities in their respective districts.
The session concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen coordination among stakeholders for the successful implementation of the project in target districts in Balochistan.
