HEC Chairman highlights education as foundation of national progress

QUETTA, Jun 05 (APP): Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, has said that the establishment of Tameer-e-Nau University will prove to be a historic milestone in Balochistan’s educational landscape, ushering in a new era of higher education, research, and human resource development in the province.
Addressing students, faculty, and staff of the Tameer-e-Nau Educational System, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar emphasized that the project will provide local students with access to modern and quality education within their own province, while also positioning the institution as a future hub of academic and research excellence for the region.
He noted that Balochistan is rich in natural resources, but its true development depends on the promotion of education and research. He stressed the importance of equipping the younger generation with modern knowledge, technology, and scientific skills, adding that the HEC is taking comprehensive measures to achieve this goal.
During his visit to educational institutions in Quetta, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar expressed satisfaction that Balochistan’s institutions are on par with those in major cities in terms of quality. He praised the talent and potential of local students, stating that with proper opportunities, they can excel both nationally and internationally.
He highlighted that Pakistani universities and youth are already proving their capabilities globally, and further improvement in academic standards and research-based education is essential to accelerate national development. He explained that the HEC has facilitated inter-university collaboration, research projects, and academic partnerships to strengthen the higher education system.
Commending the services of the Tameer-e-Nau Trust Balochistan, he said the institution holds a distinguished place in promoting quality education and character-building, serving as a shining example in the province’s academic system. He urged teachers to focus not only on academic training but also on the moral and ethical development of students, while encouraging students to pursue education with dedication, perseverance, and integrity.
Speaking at the event, Secretary of Tameer-e-Nau Trust Balochistan, Muhammad Naseem Lehri, reaffirmed the Trust’s mission to ensure access to quality education for every child in the province, utilizing all available resources. He called on federal and provincial governments, as well as relevant institutions, to fully support organizations working in the education sector to accelerate progress.
Later, Member Board of Governors of Tameer-e-Nau Trust and Secretary Government of Balochistan, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir, briefed the HEC Chairman on the institution’s performance, achievements, and future educational plans. He assured that continuous efforts are being made to further enhance educational standards.
The ceremony was attended by vice chancellors of various public and private universities, education experts, senior faculty members, administrators, students, and representatives of civil society. Participants welcomed the establishment of Tameer-e-Nau University as a significant and promising step for the advancement of higher education in Balochistan.
The event underscored the collective resolve of the HEC, provincial institutions, and educational trusts to strengthen Balochistan’s academic infrastructure, ensuring that education remains the cornerstone of national progress and prosperity.
