GILGIT, Aug 03 (APP):Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Amjad Hussain Azar on Monday said that raising the voice of the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) at international forums, extending political and diplomatic support to them, and speaking with one voice against Indian atrocities was the foremost national responsibility of the federal and provincial governments as well as all political parties.
He expressed these views while addressing an All Parties Conference (APC) held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal (Exploitation Day) Kashmir.
The conference was organized to observe the day at both official and public levels and to formulate a unanimous strategy for highlighting the Kashmir issue before the international community.
The conference was attended by former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, along with leaders of major political and religious parties from across Gilgit-Baltistan. The participants reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with the people of IIOJK.
The political leaders appreciated the initiative of Chief Minister Amjad Hussain Azar, stating that it was the first time in the history of Gilgit-Baltistan that a chief minister had launched a practical and united effort to project the Kashmir issue effectively at the international level.
The Chief Minister strongly condemned what he described as India’s oppression, illegal occupation, exploitation and serious human rights violations in IIOJK. He said solidarity with the Kashmiri people would not remain confined to the assembly floor but would be taken to every public forum.
He said observing Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir at both official and public levels would send a clear message to the international community to honour its commitments to the people of Kashmir and fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities.
Expressing concern over what he termed the double standards of the international community, the Chief Minister said that despite alleged violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions and international law, global institutions had failed to discharge their responsibilities.
He further alleged that India was not only committing atrocities in IIOJK but was also involved in attempts to destabilize Pakistan through subversive activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
He said the Kashmiri freedom movement could not be suppressed despite these actions and paid tribute to the resilience of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and the Kashmiri people. He expressed confidence that their struggle would ultimately succeed.
The Chief Minister thanked all political leaders for participating in the conference and pledged to convey a united message from Gilgit-Baltistan to the world that the people of the region stood shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
