Commissioner Quetta reviews security and civic arrangements for Muharram

Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzaib Khan Kakar in a meeting has reviewed security, sanitation, and other arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, particularly for Ashura processions and gatherings. The meeting was attended by DIG Quetta Imran Shoukat, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, officials from police, FC, law enforcement agencies, relevant departments, and representatives of the Shia Conference.

QUETTA, Jun 08 (APP): Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzaib Khan Kakar in a meeting has reviewed security, sanitation, and other arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, particularly for Ashura processions and gatherings. The meeting was attended by DIG Quetta Imran Shoukat, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, officials from police, FC, law enforcement agencies, relevant departments, and representatives of the Shia Conference.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar emphasized that Muharram is a sacred and respected month across all schools of thought, and the purpose of the meeting was to ensure timely arrangements and maximum facilitation for mourners. Representatives of the Shia Conference highlighted issues and requirements related to Muharram, and the Commissioner assured that all genuine concerns would be addressed on a priority basis.
He directed the Metropolitan Corporation and other departments to immediately complete cleaning of procession routes, drainage clearance, road repairs, and patchwork. He also instructed that faulty streetlights be repaired and proper lighting ensured at procession and majlis venues to avoid inconvenience for mourners.
The QESCO authorities were ordered to guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply during Muharram, especially on the 7th, 9th, and 10th, while SSGC officials were asked to improve gas supply schedules. The Health Department was directed to enforce emergency measures in hospitals, deploy additional medical staff, ambulances, medicines, and first aid facilities. Similarly, WASA authorities were tasked with ensuring continuous water supply, with tankers on standby if required.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar said that police, FC, and law enforcement agencies will coordinate under a joint strategy to monitor all Muharram programs. He stressed that foolproof security will be provided to mourning processions arriving from Mach, Dagari, and other areas, covering their routes from arrival to departure. Within Quetta, central processions, majalis, and religious gatherings will be closely monitored, with extra security deployed at sensitive locations.
To strengthen coordination, a central control room will be established at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where representatives of the administration, police, law enforcement agencies, and relevant departments will remain on duty round-the-clock to respond to any emergency.
