QUETTA, Jul 01 (APP): Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti strongly criticized India’s attempt to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a blatant violation of international law and the sanctity of binding agreements.
Sarfraz Bugti warned that using water as a weapon is not only illegal but poses a grave threat to peace, stability, and human security across South Asia.
He emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty is an internationally recognized and binding accord that no country has the authority to suspend or revoke unilaterally.
Highlighting the importance of the Indus River, Sarfraz Bugti said it is the lifeline of Pakistan’s people, agriculture, and economy, and therefore no compromise can be made on it.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to defend its water rights effectively at all legal, diplomatic, and constitutional forums.
The chief minister urged the international community to take immediate notice of any attempt to weaponize water, stressing that such actions endanger regional peace and stability.
