BFA seals unregistered water plant, fines 5 food centers for violation of food safety in Quetta

QUETTA, Jul 29 (APP): The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA)’s food safety team, led by the Deputy Director Operations (Headquarters) on Wednesday inspected various food centers on Spini Road and adjacent areas and sealed a water purification plant and fined 5 centers for violation food safety.
Despite, corrective notices were issued to 2 centers for multiple violations of food safety laws.
According to the Food Authority spokesperson, 20 food centers, including water plants, bakeries, general stores, restaurants, and fast food points, were inspected in detail during the inspection.
He said that the purpose of the operation was to ensure compliance with the Balochistan Food Authority’s SOPs, hygiene, food quality and food safety regulations.
During the operation, a water purification plant was sealed for non-availability of laboratory reports, non-registration of manufacture and expiry dates on bottles, non-provision of mineral records, non-registration of products, non-use of protective clothing (PPE) by staff and presence of spider webs in the unit.
The spokesman said that similarly, a street hotel, two baking units, a fast food point and a general store were fined for poor cleanliness, substandard storage, poor waste disposal arrangements, non-use of protective clothing by workers and other violations.
Expired custard, Nido milk, coffee and Quaker oats were also recovered from the general store. Furthermore, corrective notices were issued to two food business operators for minor irregularities, while the remaining centers were found to be overall satisfactory.
