BFA launches campaign against substandard milk, yogurt, seals 2 units
QUETTA, Sep 16 (APP):On special directives of Balochistan Minister and Chairman of Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) Haji Noor Muhammad Dumar, the Provincial Minister and Chairman of the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA), has launched a province-wide special campaign against adulterated, substandard milk and yogurt while sealed two units and fined 18 centers in operation.
Under this campaign, large-scale inspections and quality checks were conducted in Quetta and Loralai, targeting milk vendors, shops, milk-transporting vehicles, milk suppliers, and other suspected locations.
On the first day of the campaign, BFA inspection teams took action in Quetta and Loralai, sealing two units and imposing fines on 18 centers and milk suppliers.
During these operations, a total of 59 milk-transporting vehicles and motorcycles, along with seven milk shops, were inspected.
According to the BFA spokesperson, the quality of 19,221 liters of milk and a large quantity of yogurt was tested, approximately 2,000 liters of milk and a significant amount of yogurt found to be adulterated, substandard to human health were destroyed on the spot.
Milk samples were tested on-site using the BFA’s mobile laboratory, revealing the presence of added water and skimmed milk.
Upon confirmation of violations, immediate action was taken, and containers of suspected milk were confiscated.
During the operations against milk vendors and suppliers, inspection teams also took notice of various violations, including poor hygiene arrangements, improper storage, contaminated containers, deplorable cleanliness conditions, and operating without a license.
Regarding the special milk testing campaign, Fakhruddin Marri, Director of Operations at the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) headquarters, stated that milk is a vital staple food consumed daily; therefore, no compromise would be made regarding its quality and purity.
He noted that the on-the-spot milk testing process using mobile laboratories has been enhanced to promptly detect adulteration and prevent the supply of substandard milk to the public.
Fakhruddin Marri emphasized that adulterating milk with water, skimmed milk, or other unauthorized substances poses a health risk, consequently, milk vendors and suppliers must strictly adhere to established food safety regulations and hygiene standards. He made it clear that violations would result in fines, the sealing of premises, and other legal actions.
The Director of Operations added that BFA teams would continue conducting regular inspections across various areas to monitor milk quality.
He also appealed to the public to report the sale of adulterated, suspicious, or substandard milk to the Balochistan Food Authority so that timely action could be taken against those endangering public health.
