QUETTA, Oct 06 (APP):The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan has formally launched the province’s Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE) Framework, aimed at safeguarding women, girls, and other vulnerable groups during crises. The ceremony was held at the PDMA Conference Hall in Quetta under the chairmanship of Director PDMA Balochistan, Naveed Ahmed Sheikh.
The event was attended by representatives of relevant government departments, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Australian Aid, and other partner organizations.
The framework seeks to establish an effective system and coordinated strategy to protect affected populations from gender-based violence during natural disasters, emergencies, and other crisis situations. Under the theme “From Preparedness to Protection — Together for a Safer, More Resilient Balochistan”, participants reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring not only disaster response but also the protection of rights and safety of women and marginalized groups.
Speakers highlighted that risks faced by women and vulnerable communities increase during emergencies, making preparedness, timely protection, institutional coordination, and effective relief systems indispensable. The GBViE framework was described as a significant step forward for Balochistan, with emphasis placed on its effective implementation to strengthen resilience and safeguard communities.
