Balochistan High Court directs timely completion of Quetta development projects
QUETTA, May 19 (APP):A two-member bench of the Balochistan High Court, comprising Chief Justice, Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail and Justice Najam Ud-Din Mengal, heard a case regarding ongoing development and traffic management projects in the provincial capital.
During proceedings, the bench issued directives to ensure the timely completion of work on Samungli Road and Sariab Service Road. The Additional Attorney General presented an interim report on behalf of the Quetta Cantonment Board, while the Project Director of the Chief Minister’s Quetta Development Package (CMQDP)and his counsel submitted a proposed master plan for the improvement of Samungli Road and traffic management.
The court was informed that joint meetings and site visits with the Cantonment Board had been completed, a topographic map prepared, and the detailed master plan forwarded to the central committee for final approval.
Representatives of the Methodist Church also presented 3D proposals for beautification and traffic improvements around Imdad Chowk and Zarghoon Road. Meanwhile, the Director General of the Balochistan Traffic Engineering Bureau (BTEB) briefed the court on ongoing projects to regulate traffic flow along Hali Road, Zarghoon Road, and the vicinity of the High Court.
The petitioner highlighted potential traffic congestion and public inconvenience due to proposed U-turns near the railway station and Colon Road, suggesting alternative U-turns at Imdad Chowk and in front of the railway station to prevent gridlock.
The court directed the CMQDP Project Director and BTEB DG to conduct a detailed review of the identified sites and submit a comprehensive report.
Expressing concern over delays caused by restrictions imposed by the Cantonment Board, the bench ordered immediate completion of asphalt layering on Samungli Road and Sariab Service Road, emphasizing that no institution would be allowed to obstruct development work. Regular progress reports must also be submitted to the court.
During the hearing, the Additional Advocate General informed the bench that he had been de-notified. However, the court instructed him to continue responsibilities as convener of special and sub-committees, while directing the Advocate General of Balochistan to provide full support. The case has been adjourned until June 4.
