ECP to hold LG elections in ICT’s 50 union councils on Nov 30

ISLAMABAD, Nov 2 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan will
hold Local government Elections on 50 union councils of Islamabad Capital Territory and scrutiny of nomination papers continued.
According to the spokesman of ECP, the election would be held on
November 30 and six kinds of ballot papers would be used on 13 seats of each union council.
He said that the commission had received 2958 nomination papers for LG
elections and out of total nomination papers, 376 candidates filed their nomination papers for the seats of Chairman and Vice chairman and 1502 for general member seat.
For women seat, 401 candidates filed nomination papers, for workers
seats 282, on seats for Youth 282 and 115 filed nomination papers against seats for minority members. He said that the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held from
October 31 to November 4. Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers by the Returning Officers could be filed on November 5 and 6.
Appeals would be disposed of from of November 7 to 9.
Candidates could withdraw their names till November 10.
Final list of contesting candidates with symbols allotted to them would be published on November 11. The results of the local government elections would be declared on December, 3.Moreover, in order to ensure that elections of the Union Councils and Wards in Islamabad Capital Territory are conducted fairly,the ECP directs that all executive authorities in the federation will not use state resources in Local Government Elections calculated to influence the elections in favour of a particular candidate or a political party.
If any person in government service misuses his official position in any manner in order to influence results of elections, he will be liable to be proceeded against under Section 60 of the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Act, 2015, it added.
“No transfers/postings of the civil servants shall be made after the issuance of Schedule of local government elections for ICT without prior approval of the Election Commission till the publication of election results, said ECP. another Public office holder will neither openly nor in secret give any subscription or donation or make promises for giving such subscription or donation to any institution, nor shall inaugurate, commit to undertake or announce any development project therein for the advancement of the campaign of a candidate of his choice and thereby influence the results of elections,” added the spokesman.
Any holder of public office, who is found to have violated any provision of election laws or the instructions issued by the Election Commission, shall be proceeded against as mandated in law, he added.
