APP, BelTA cooperation to act as cultural gateway to Pakistan, Belarus: Irina Akulovich

ISLAMABAD, Mar 19 (APP):Close media collaboration between Pakistan and Belarus can act as a gateway to their cultures and economy, leading to greater people-to-people contacts of the two countries, Director General Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA) Irina Akulovich said on Tuesday.

“Through exchange of news items with pictorial depiction of the two vibrant societies, APP and BelTA can reach out to each other’s audiences to give a further boost to their bilateral relations,” DG BelTA Akulovich said during a visit to APP Headquarters, accompanied by Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei Ermolovich.
Irina Akulovich in a meeting with Managing Director APP Muhammad Qamarullah stressed for upgradation of cooperation techniques between APP and BelTA, keeping in view the changing trends of news worldwide, particularly the fast-paced social media.

She said her visit to Pakistan was in line with the 25-year of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which included meetings with the Information Minister, Speaker National Assembly and opening of photographic exhibition, aimed at giving a glimpse of Belarusian culture.

She mentioned that BelTA, which completed 100-year of its establishment last December, was issuing news content in six languages namely Spanish, English, Russian, French, Chinese and German.

Under the concept of ‘Informational Security’, BelTA understands to maintain credibility of its news, amidst the continuous war of fake news, she added.
She said BelTA issued 200 news items daily and carried a vast photographic archive of some 400,000 photos.

MD APP Muhammad Qamarullah apprised the DG BelTA about the functioning of APP through its Headquarters, nine bureaus and seven stations country-wide besides its foreign correspondents, placed in important countries.

He said that the APP Global initiative was meant to target the international audience with news items transmitted in an abridged form.
The two sides stressed the need for designating their correspondents in each other’s countries for better news cooperation.

Later, DG BelTA Irina Akulovich and MD APP Muhammad Qamarullah inked a document to further cooperate on sorting out modalities for the implementation of the existing Memorandum of Understanding between APP and BelTA.
The MD presented souvenirs and shields to Irina Akulovich and Ambassador Andrei Ermolovich, who also wrote their comments in the visitors’ book.
