In an abortive attempt to create diversion from Narendra Modi’s human rights abuses in Kashmir, the Indian media went berserk by propagating fake news about a “civil war” like situation in Karachi, triggering a hilarious response from the twitterati in Pakistan, who enjoyed every bit of the ridiculous reports.

#CivilWarInPakistan and #KarachiCivilWar were in no time the top trends, with the young twitter users going crazy by posting video clips from action movies, comics, images of the Indian MiG pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, shot down by Pakistan Air Force inside Pakistan’s territory, as scenes from the Civil War, getting an equally enthusiastic response with numerous retweets and likes.

The arrest of PML-N leader Captain (Retd) Safdar on charges of political sloganeering at Quaid’s Mausoleum and leave applications by senior police officers was exploited by the top Indian news channels, who portrayed an administrative issue as a “civil war” and went to the extent of even reporting casualties, and armed clashes.

The news reports were part of a persistent barrage of fake news from Indian mainstream media and its RAW controlled assets on social media over the past few months. The trend has witnessed a sharp spike as part of India’s fifth generation war (5GW) against Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office on the “malicious and fabricated propaganda” by Indian mainstream and social media claiming civil unrest in Pakistan, said planting such baseless stories were reflective of the “Pakistan-obsessed BJP-RSS” mindset.

“Needless to say that Indian media continues to hit new lows,” he said, when asked to respond over the series of fake news flashed as breaking news across the Indian media about a “civil war in Pakistan”.

The Spokesperson said through “peddling fake news and running propaganda machinery”, India could not wash away the truth about its own gross and systematic human rights violations in Indian Ilelgally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

“Rather than reporting on humanitarian crisis in IIOJK, the Indian media chooses to spread fake and sensational news about Pakistan to detract from core issues,” he said.

The Indian media tried hard to appease its own consumers and to create a diversion from its human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir. However in its abortive attempt it created history by churning out fake news overpowered by the anti-Pakistan hysteria, undermining its professional ethics and credibility.

The unleashing of the Indian media did not go unnoticed, as Michael Kugelman, deputy director at the @AsiaProgram and South Asia senior associate @TheWilsonCenter in a tweet pointed that the Indian disinformation accounts were exploiting Pakistan’s current political crisis, and “falsely claiming that the country is no experiencing urban warfare.”

He described the trend as “dangerous and disturbing”, as several of these accounts were verified and had huge followings.

Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari said the Indian media was in “hyper drive with fake news on Pakistan” and regretted that it was “unfortunate that Twitter is [deliberately ignoring it].”

All major media outlets in so-called world’s biggest democracy decimated all journalistic norms as none bothered to fact-check such a huge gaffe. India’s News18, India Today, Zee News, India.com and several others quoted the International Herald which showed old videos of bomb explosions in Pakistan and portrayed it as the ongoing civil war.

The Institute of Policy Research in a report said their data indicates a pattern of Indian propaganda against Pakistan on digital media that grew exponentially after 2018 General Elections in #Pakistan. The propaganda hovers around largely 4 key themes.

Minister for Ports and Shipping pointed that the Indian propaganda was at its peak and “sadly fueled by the PDM Circus.” He said the food inflation was artificially manufactured, but was being brought under control.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs also lambasted the “fake, fabricated and malicious propaganda campaign to malign State institutions of Pakistan. He urged @Twitter to take action against Indian accounts for #FakeNews against Paksitan.

However, this idiocy of Indian media gave the Twitterati a perfect chance to enjoy as the microblogging site was flooded with messages to ridicule the Indian media’s insanity.

“Karachi civil war has gotten so bad that my food panda delivery boy had to crawl through mine fields carrying his AK47, RPG & 9mm along with my nihari and Biryani. This thing is getting so serious. Multiple cows have been killed & people are dying of over eating. #IndianMedia,” commented renowned singer Fakhr-e-Alam.

Besides numerous other fake photos, the Indian media also used an image of a building collapsed following a gas leakage blast in Karachi earlier in the day to substantiate its fake news of civil war.

“A little investigation would have informed Zee News that it wasn’t a bomb blast in ‘civil war’ in Pakistan but the result of a  gas leak in Karachi. Whither truth, objectivity, balance and fairness in reporting?,” said Farhatullah Babr, former senator of Pakistan Peoples Party which rules Sindh province.

“An Aircraft shot during civil war in Karachi… and the pilot captured…,” commented another Twitter user Fasihuddin while sharing the images of Indian aircraft MiG-21 and captured injured pilot Abhinandan following an aerial dogfight during India-Pakistan standoff in 2019.

UK, Australia & Canada all recognize Palestinian state as rebuke to Israel for Gaza war

0

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 22 (APP): Britain, Australia and Canada said on Sunday that they now recognize a Palestine state, widely expected moves that mirror similar plans by other U.S. allies aimed at piling pressure on Israel as it presses on with its war in Gaza despite international outrage.

France and several other countries are expected to follow suit at the United Nations General Assembly this week, deepening Israel’s isolation and putting them at odds with Israel’s key partner, the United States.

In response, a defiant Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that “there will be no Palestinian state.”

More than 140 other members of the UN already recognize Palestine, a number that has grown in the face of mounting alarm over Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

The Western move comes amid global condemnation over Israel’s war in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left much of the enclave in ruins.

Last week, a United Nations commission investigating the war said Israel was committing genocide against Palestinians, an assertion Israel has rejected.

The announcements were made just ahead of the annual session of the 193-member Assembly in New York, a gathering where France and Portugal are also expected to vote for recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Diplomats said Sunday’s concerted action, across three continents, will deepen the diplomatic isolation of Netanyahu. But so far, moves to recognize a Palestinian state have not curbed Israel’s military campaign in Israeli Occupied Territory.

While recognition is a symbolic act of support for Palestinian self-determination, the prospect of a viable Palestinian state — on territory now occupied or blockaded by the Israeli military — looks more elusive than it has been in decades.

“The hope for a two-state solution is fading, but we cannot let that light go out,” Britain’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, said in a video statement. “Today, to revive the hope of peace and a two-state solution, I state clearly as prime minister of this great country that the United Kingdom formally recognizes the State of Palestine.”

Canada and Australia confirmed their decisions in statements released just before PM Starmer did.

Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada accused the Israeli government of “working methodically to prevent the prospect of a Palestinian state from ever being established.” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia said a two-state solution has “always been the only path to enduring peace and security for the Israeli and the Palestinian peoples.”

The flurry of announcements drew praise from Palestinian leaders and condemnation from Israel’s government.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed Starmer’s announcement as “an important and necessary step toward achieving a just and lasting peace.”

Pakistan, a staunch supporter of Palestinian self-determination, has all along pushed for the recognition of a Palestinian state.

Speaking at a UN meeting in July on two-state solution, sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, which was focused on the two-state solution, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar called for “universal recognition” of the State of Palestine and full UN membership.

He highlighted the ongoing injustice endured by the Palestinian people and demanded international accountability for war crimes.

DPM/FM Dar also presided over a UN Security Council meeting on the Palestine issue — during Pakistan’s presidency of the 15-member Council in July –reinforcing its stance.

Ahsan departs for China to participate in 14th CPEC JCC meeting

0

ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday departed for Beijing to attend the 14th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), scheduled for September 26.

Before leaving for China, he in a statement underlined the strategic significance of the upcoming meeting and its role in shaping the future of Pakistan-China economic cooperation.

“China has always stood by Pakistan in every difficult time. It is our trusted friend, and together, we will continue working towards mutual prosperity,” he said.

Ahsan Iqbal said the 14th JCC meeting would serve as a platform to operationalize the vision for CPEC Phase II, focusing on industrial collaboration, technological innovation, and sustainable development.

“We will transform the action plan prepared during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China for 2025-2029 into a concrete roadmap,” he said.

The minister said Pakistan was on a new journey towards economic development and national prosperity, adding that the country’s economic indicators have shown marked improvement in recent months.

Recalling the achievements of CPEC Phase I, the minister said Pakistan focused on foundational infrastructure, energy and connectivity.

“With around $33 billion in Chinese investment, we completed major power and infrastructure projects,” he said, particularly mentioning the Sahiwal Power Plant, Port Qasim Power Plant, Hubco Coal Power Plant, Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur (300 MW) and the Thar Coal Project.

By laying out a network of highways and motorways, he said, the government connected all regions of the country, paving the way for national integration and mobility.

Highlighting Gwadar’s transformation, Ahsan Iqbal said the port has placed Balochistan on the path to development. “Projects like port upgradation, the Free Zone, the Gwadar International Airport, water supply schemes, a modern hospital, and the East Bay Expressway are turning Gwadar into a regional trade hub.”

However, he lamented the slowdown of CPEC following political changes in 2018. “Unfortunately, CPEC progress was rolled back post-2018 due to political instability,” the minister said but expressed confidence in regaining momentum through the next phase.

Describing CPEC 2.0 as a new chapter, he said business-to-business collaboration, technological advancement, agricultural transformation, green energy, and the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) were included in its priorities.

He also noted that during the PM’s recent visit to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, both countries agreed to align CPEC Phase II with Pakistan’s 5Es development framework under the “Uraan Pakistan” initiative. The five corridors under the CPEC-II vision focus on growth, livelihoods, innovation, green economy, and regional development, he added.

“This phase will create employment, drive prosperity, and lay the foundation for an export-led economy,” Ahsan Iqbal said.
He said while China imports goods worth $2 trillion annually, Pakistan’s share was only $3 billion. “There’s a massive opportunity to boost exports and integrate into global value chains through CPEC,” he added.

Calling it a guarantee for a brighter future, the minister expressed a strong commitment, saying, “We are fully prepared for the successful execution of CPEC 2.0. This phase will ensure prosperity for generations to come.”

UN marks Int’l Peace Day with call to silence guns, end suffering

0

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 21 (APP): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres marked the International Day of Peace on Sunday with a stark warning that “our warring world is crying out for peace,” urging people everywhere to act now to silence guns, heal divisions and build hope.

“Lives are being ripped apart, childhoods extinguished, and basic human dignity discarded, amidst the cruelty and degradations of war,” the UN chief said in a message for the Day. “All they want is peace.”

He stressed that conflict today is not confined to battlefields, with its impacts rippling across borders, fuelling displacement, poverty and instability.

“We must silence the guns. End the suffering. Build bridges. And create stability and prosperity.”

The International Day of Peace was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981 and later designated as a day of non-violence and ceasefire.

This year’s theme, Act Now for a Peaceful World, highlights the urgent need for collective action to prevent conflicts, combat hate and misinformation, and support peacebuilders – especially women and young people.

Guterres underscored the link between peace and sustainable development, noting that nine of the ten countries struggling most with development are also suffering conflict. He also warned against racism and dehumanisation, calling instead for “the language of respect” and dialogue.

This year’s observance falls on the eve of the UN General Assembly’s annual high-level week, when world leaders gather in New York to debate global challenges – from wars and climate disruption to gender equality and the transformative risks and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence.

The Secretary-General said the timing underlines the need for a concerted international push for peace, as divisions widen and instability grows.

“Where we have peace, we have hope,” Guterres said. “Peace cannot wait – our work starts now.”

Punjab has strong financial position: Mian Mujtaba

0
LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP): Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that Punjab’s financial position remains strong with no shortage of funds.
The provincial government has announced a comprehensive relief package for flood victims, he said, assuring that all compensation will be completed within one month. Survey teams have already been mobilized, and financial assistance will be provided through ATM cards to ensure transparency and eliminate any possibility of corruption.
He expressed these views while addressing a seminar titled “Flood Devastation and Timely Measures of the Chief Minister of Punjab” organized by Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Trust at a local hotel on Sunday. The event was attended by Provincial Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin, DG PDMA Irfan Kathiar, RPO Sheikhupura Athar Ismail, DG Emergency Services Dr. Rizwan Naseer, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, and Bishop of Lahore.
Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman paid rich tribute to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for leading a historic and effective response to the unprecedented floods. He said that under her dynamic leadership, all government institutions, in close collaboration with the armed forces, carried out successful rescue operations. This teamwork minimized the scale of potential losses from the natural disaster.
He highlighted that during the floods, cabinet members remained in the field, supervising relief efforts in their assigned districts to ensure smooth coordination. The recent floods, which simultaneously affected 28 districts, were among the worst in Punjab’s history. The situation was further aggravated by the release of heavy water flows from India during the monsoon season.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman praised PDMA, Rescue 1122, Police, City District Government, Health Department, and other institutions for their remarkable performance. He noted that for the first time in history, livestock was rescued alongside people. He added that flood camps were managed with dignity, providing victims with clean bedding, proper food, healthcare facilities, and arrangements for their animals.
Announcing the relief package, the Minister said that under the directives of the Chief Minister, Rs. 1 million will be provided for the reconstruction of fully destroyed houses, while Rs. 500,000 will be given for partially damaged houses. Families of deceased victims will receive Rs. 1 million, while seriously injured individuals will be given Rs. 500,000 each. Compensation for livestock losses will also be included.
Looking ahead, the Minister said that in light of climate change, heavier rains and floods are expected in the coming years. To counter these risks, the Punjab Government will construct small dams, build underground recharge wells for drainage and storage of rainwater, clear river passages, remove illegal encroachments, and complete the construction and repair of drains.

The officials informed that around 24,000 cusecs water was being released in K B Feeder, Old Phuleli, New Phuleli and Akram canals.
Dozens of villages located on the riverbed in Hyderabad were voluntarily evacuated by the residents, a majority of whom shifted themselves to makeshift tents along the embankments.
