ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP):The Oxfam, a Non-Government Organization, on Sunday claimed to reach every nook and cranny of the country to train female humanitarian leaders for their worthy role in catastrophic conditions.
The initiative to be taken up in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Humanitarian Network (NHN) is aiming to ensure at least one female humanitarian leader from every village of Pakistan for their utilization as a human resource.
Talking to APP, the Country Director of Oxfam Muhammad Hassan Qazilbash said women were more effective to collect correct data in crisis situation as they have strong liaison and knowledge about their localities as compared to the men. That is critically important for a calculated response to some situation in natural calamities, he added.
These trainings will help provide women with knowledge about their rights, leadership skills and disaster preparedness so that they are better equipped to lead their communities and know their rights in times of a humanitarian crisis” , he informed.
The fundamental principal behind empowering the women, he said, was to reach every female as cultural taboos were hindrance to have information on feminine segment through men to achieve desired goals.
He offered that any female could join Oxfam in this cause and could ensure availability at the time of emergency by registering herself with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.
It is pertinent to mention that Oxfam with NDMA and NHN had recently launched the series of first response trainings in Capital exclusively for women humanitarian workers to take leadership roles in humanitarian efforts.
Oxfam is a confederation of 20 independent charitable organizations focusing on the alleviation of global poverty and to assist in the development of structures which directly benefit people facing the realities of poverty and injustice.
