BAHAWALPUR, Jan 31 (APP):A meeting of the District Cotton Management Monitoring Committee was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Ameer Taimur, here on Friday.
The meeting reviewed the measures taken regarding the cultivation, maintenance, canal water supply, and provision of fertilizers for the cotton crop. The Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue stated that, in accordance with the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, effective measures should be implemented throughout the district for the cotton crop and improved yields.
He stressed the need to inform farmers and cultivators about modern agricultural technology, and that the officers and staff of the Agriculture Extension Department should go into the field to provide awareness to farmers and cultivators for achieving better cotton production. He also mentioned that steps should be taken to ensure the supply of canal water up to the tail end. The Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue called for measures to provide fertilizers and sprays to farmers and cultivators at fixed rates for cotton.
Earlier, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Hafiz Muhammad Shafiq briefed that a target of cultivating early cotton on over 52,000 acres has been set in Bahawalpur district. He reported that farmers are being informed about modern agricultural practices. He added that legal action is being taken against those involved in adulteration of fertilizers and agricultural chemicals.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioners, Assistant Directors of Agriculture Extension from across the district, officers from other relevant departments, as well as representatives from the fertilizer, seed, and agricultural chemicals businesses, along with farmers and cultivators.
