ISLAMABAD, March 19 (APP):A meeting of the sub-group of National Assembly Special Committee on Delimitation of Constituencies was held here at the Parliament House Monday under the chairmanship of Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz.
The meeting was informed that the nine-member Working Group was constituted with a mandate to examine the proposals and objections relating to delimitation of constituencies being made by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and make recommendations in that regard to the House.
It was informed that the Working Group would send the suggestions and proposals within three days to address the issue of new delimitation of constituencies to the ECP for resolution.
With reference to the points raised by members regarding a notification issued by the ECP on March 5, the National Assembly adopted a motion to constitute the special committee to examine proposals or objections relating to delimitation of constituencies
being conducted by the ECP and make recommendations in this regard to the house in seven days.
The first meeting of the Special Committee on Delimitation of Constituencies was held on March 14, in which Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi was unanimously elected its chairman.
The meeting also discussed issues including clockwise delimitation, stark discrepancies while determining the boundaries of the constituencies on different criteria of population, issue of Sections 20/21 of Election Act; 2017, constitution of Election Tribunals for
hearing appeals against the delimitation of constituencies and performance of ECP with regard to provision of maps of the constituencies to the general public.
