MULTAN, Jan 17 (APP):Pakistan’s wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan expressed his thoughts on the first day of the opening Test against West Indies, stressing the need to adapt to local conditions and make the most of available resources.
Holding a press conference after the first day’s play at Multan Cricket Stadium, he stressed the importance of learning from the challenges posed by unfamiliar pitches. He said “We cannot set a fixed target on this kind of pitch, but the goal was to assess the situation and score accordingly”. He acknowledged that such pitches had not been seen in the past, urging players and teams to prepare for tougher cricket ahead.
He credited partnerships for helping Pakistan stay competitive in the game, stating, “Allah’s blessing and crucial partnerships helped us today. He predicted that without the fog, this match would not have lasted beyond three days.”
To a question about the absence of key players, he said, “Some players were being rested to prepare for upcoming cricket. He recalled that South Africa’s pacers exposed us to conditions we had not experienced before, but the challenges make the team better.
He emphasized that Pakistan must utilize its unique cricketing resources effectively, saying, “If we cannot capitalize on our strengths, we need to learn how to do so. On such pitches, the focus should be on playing smart cricket and building good scores according to the conditions,” he maintained.
Rizwan’s candid reflections come as Pakistan navigates new challenges on home turf, promising a focus on adaptability and resilience in their approach.
