GIZ, ADIDAS delegation meet Minister to discuss sports facilities in KP schools

PESHAWAR, Jan 17 (APP):Provincial Minister for Education, Faisal Khan on Friday emphasized the availability of top-notch sports facilities across educational institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Talking to a delegations from GIZ and ADIDAS here, he stated that boys and girls were being provided equal opportunities to excel in sports, leading many athletes to represent at national and international levels with the Education Department’s full support.
The minister highlighted that primary schools had dedicated play areas, while high and higher secondary schools were equipped with grounds.
He further mentioned that annual local, national, and international sports tournaments were organized at district and provincial levels, with plans to enhance these arrangements next year through support from donors, NGOs, and the KP Sports Department.
The delegations briefed the minister on ongoing collaborative sports projects and expressed their willingness to expand these programs to other districts.
They also pledged to provide coaches and create international opportunities for young athletes.
Minister Faisal Khan thanked the delegations and expressed optimism about their joint projects, which would provide opportunities and guidance to school athletes.
He assured that both male and female students would benefit equally from these initiatives and directed the delegations to ensure balanced measures for both groups.
Additionally, the minister instructed Additional Director Iftikhar Ahmed Shamozai to take steps for advanced training of physical education teachers and to promote local sports through dedicated tournaments.
He stressed that participation in extracurricular activities enhances students’ mental development, which positively impacts their academic performance.
He further noted that practical measures were being implemented to promote sports in merged and underdeveloped districts with the assistance of the Sports Department.
The minister also informed the delegation about the Education Department’s comprehensive sports strategy and annual activity plan, which was being updated to meet modern requirements.
Moreover, he emphasized that the mandate of the examination boards now includes the promotion of sports.
