ISLAMABAD, Jan 16 (APP):The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened its inaugural session on Water Scarcity and Food Security on Thursday, bringing together key stakeholders from various ministries, departments, and organizations to address the urgent challenges facing Pakistan.
The session aimed to lay the foundation for a comprehensive study focused on formulating recommendations to tackle the country’s water scarcity and food security issues. Participants included representatives from government bodies, development partners, and the private sector, all working together to find sustainable solutions.
Chairman WAPDA, who attended the session, shared valuable insights into the water management strategies and ongoing initiatives in Pakistan. He emphasized the need for efficient water use and highlighted the role of water resource management in addressing food security challenges.
Chairman NDMA provided an overview of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to address these interconnected challenges.
He highlighted initiatives in disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and the implementation of early warning systems to promote sustainable resource management and ensure food resilience across the country.
The session concluded with participants offering important suggestions and outlining a clear path forward to mitigate the dual threats of water scarcity and food insecurity.
