ISLAMABAD, Jan 15 (APP):Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar on Wednesday said that Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) had recovered Rs 69,496,295 from 8,747 agents involved in embezzlements to ensure transparency in the system.
Responding to a question answer session of Senators Haji Hidayatulah Khan and Danesh Kumar in Senate, the minister revealed that total amount of embezzled was Rs 144, 733,798, out of which 75,237,503 was outstanding.
He said the BISP was taking practical steps to recover the rest of the amount.
Tarar appreciated the efforts taken by BISP in ensuring the transparency in the system, adding that the present government was committed to ensure zero tolerance against embezzlements and corruption.
“Any bank agent found involved in illegal deduction and embezzlement was immediately blocked through concerned bank and also blacklisted in the system so that such agents cannot make aby BISP related transactions through other partners of banks,” he added.
The federal law minister said that recoveries from such agents was made in coordination with concerned banks.
