LAHORE, Jan 14 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday launched a comprehensive inspection of Tollinton Market, resulting in heavy fines and disposal of unsafe poultry products.
On the direction of PFA Director General Asim Javed, the Meat Safety Task Force
conducted checks at 17 meat warehouses and suppliers, 46,000 kg chicken were
inspected and over 2,000 kilograms of sick poultry were destroyed.
The action was taken after previous directives were not followed by the concerned
vendors.
Significant quantities of unhealthy chickens were seized and disposed of due to
serious violations of food safety regulations.
DG Food Authority Asim Javed stated the actions were in line with efforts to ensure
the safety and quality of meat supplied to consumers. He emphasized that there
would be amendments to existing regulations to further improve meat quality and
safety standards.
“We are working on upgrading the meat production and delivery system to meet
international standards,” he added.
The DG also clarified that the food business in Punjab could only operate according
to the rules set by the Punjab Food Authority. “A public-friendly policy will be followed
for those who comply with the regulations, while strict actions will be taken against
those who violate the laws,” he concluded.
