ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (APP):Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the progress of the Seerat Center Lahore project, emphasizing the need for its swift activation.
The Rs1,387.647 million project, approved in July 2022, aims to establish nine Seerat Chairs in public sector universities, construct a Center for Gender Studies and Rights for Women, and form an endowment fund, a news release said.
Addressing the meeting, the minister stressed that the project’s objective was to promote research on themes derived from the life of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), including faith & sectarian harmony, leadership & rule, human rights & social justice, education & knowledge, sustainable development, gender studies & women rights, and global peace.
Expressing disappointment over inactivation of the project despite the passage of two years, Ahsan Iqbal directed the authorities concerned to establish the administrative structure, library, and research facilities as soon as possible.
He emphasized the importance of providing female students with a comprehensive curriculum, including Islamic teachings, philosophy, economics and management. This, he believed, would equip them with ideological strength and the ability to thrive in the modern world.
Ahsan Iqbal expressed hope that the Seerat Center Lahore project would become a milestone for promoting women’s rights and gender education in Pakistan.
