KARACHI, Sep 25 (APP): Awami National Party chief Aimal Wali Khan on Wednesday said the Parliament being a supreme institution could help take the country forward and legal fraternity should play its due role for strengthening of democracy.
Addressing the Karachi Bar Association, he said the historic Bar having representation of advocates of all nationalities, should work for the basic human rights of oppressed people, supremacy of the Parliament and the Constitution, and provision of speedy justice to the people.
He said the lawyers always remained on the forefront for the supremacy of the Parliament and strengthening democracy. The ANP, he said, was also part of the lawyers’ movement, and even lost its 40 workers in the May 12 tragedy, he claimed.
Recalling the role of his grandfather in the passage of 1973 Constitution, Aimal said Khan Abdul Wali Khan always condemned those judges who had supported martial law regimes.
