KARACHI, Aug 27 (APP):A special ceremony was held at the Governor House in honour of Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem on Tuesday.
The event was attended by consuls general from various countries, including China, Turkey, Iran, Qatar, and Bangladesh. The ceremony also saw the participation of the victorious Under-15 football team.
Addressing the event, Governor Kamran Tessori announced the inclusion of sports in the Governor’s Initiative.
He emphasized his commitment to providing all possible support and assistance to sports activities across the province.
The governor also mentioned that gold medalist Arshad Nadeem and his coach would play an active role in supporting these efforts.
Governor Tessori further announced the organization of a marathon in Karachi in January, which he described as the largest event of its kind. He highlighted the success of IT initiatives, with many individuals earning between $300 to $600 per month after completing IT courses, and expressed his intention to similarly elevate sports in the province.
In recognition of the Under-15 football team’s achievement, Governor Tessori announced a reward of one million rupees, a motorcycle for each player, and an additional one lakh rupees for each member of the team. He expressed his hope that the team would continue to bring honour to the country through their dedication and hard work.
During the ceremony, Governor Sindh presented a gold necklace to Arshad Nadeem. At the governor’s request, Arshad Nadeem demonstrated his javelin throw skills, which delighted the attendees. In a surprising move, the governor also attempted a javelin throw, much to the amusement of the audience.
Governor Tessori remarked that Arshad Nadeem’s javelin throw brought back fond memories of his Olympic triumph. The event concluded with a tree-planting ceremony as part of the ongoing tree plantation campaign at the Governor House.
