QUETTA, Aug 09 (APP):Former Senator Barrister Nawabzada Saifullah Magsi on Friday said that the completion of the Naulong Dam, with the support of the federal government, will be a significant milestone for the development of the green belt of the Balochistan.
Naulong dam will promote the growth of agriculture and livestock in Jhal Magsi, bringing 47,000 acres of land under cultivation and generating electricity for the area.
He expressed these views while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Naulong Integrated Water Resource Development Project organized by the Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP).
Dr. Shah Nawaz from BRSP, Project Director Yusuf Magsi, irrigation expert Mr. Allen Clark, and others were also present on the occasion.
He praised the federal government’s efforts for initiating such public-friendly projects.
During the briefing on the project, the former senator was informed that the Naulong Dam spans 3,716 acres with a command area of 47,000 acres and will generate 4.4 megawatts of electricity under hydroelectric power generation.
The project will also create employment opportunities through fish farming.
Former Senator Magsi emphasized that the construction of the Naulong Dam will bring a positive revolution and that every possible effort will be made for the development of society.
He noted that since 1960, the Naulong Gorge on the Mula River has been the focus of a storage dam study, with the feasibility study of the original project conducted by WAPDA’s Planning and Investment Division in April 1996.
He further added that the construction of the Naulong Dam in the Jhal Magsi district of Balochistan will lead to the development of the agriculture and livestock sectors, creating opportunities for the people.
“The federal government’s efforts in initiating such public-friendly projects are commendable,” he lauded.
