Rs 64bn being spent on agriculture development: commissioner

FAISALABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Commissioner Sargodha Silwat Saeed has said that the Punjab government is spending a huge amount of Rs 64 billion for development of the agriculture sector.
She was presiding over a meeting of Divisional Agriculture Advisory Committee, held to review kissan package announced by the CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif here Wednesday. The commissioner said that facilitation of farmers was being given priority to increase per acre agricultural produce, for which quality fertilizers, seeds and pesticides are being ensured.She said that now small farmers would also avail the loan facilities through Kissan cards and directed for maximum registration of small farmers for issuing them Kissan cards.
Agriculture Director Khalid Mahmood said that that the target to issue Kissan card is 121,410 farmers in the division however the department has so far received 42,231 applications.
He told the meeting that 8 kissan facilitation centers have been set up to ensure quality pesticides to farmers.
He further said that the cotton crop has been cultivated on 99,000 acres of land across the division.
The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioners of the division to monitor the performance of Kissan facilitation centers.
She said that tractors would be provided to farmers at subsidized rates under the kisan package. The subsidy of Rs 1.5 million will be given on each tractor under green tractor scheme, she added.
