Commissioner visits Gawalmandi area to review water levels in Nullah lai

RAWALPINDI, Jul 29 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak here on Monday visited Gawalmandi area and reviewed arrangements finalized to cope with flooding and water levels in Nullah Lai.
Following heavy rains in the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the Commissioner assessed the water levels in Nullah Lai.
Assistant Commissioner, City and Water and Sanitation Agency, (WASA) officials briefed the Commissioner about the arrangements in place.
The Commissioner said that the situation was under control in Nullah Lai and low-lying city areas despite heavy rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
WASA teams are in the field and making efforts to drain out stagnant rain water, he said.
Engineer Aamir Khattak ordered the WASA authorities to ensure cleanliness of Nullah Lai. The situation in the city is under control, he added.
The Commissioner said that Rawalpindi had recorded 65 mm rainfall on Monday.
All officers of the district administration were asked to stay in the field and all the departments were on high alert to manage any emergencies, the Commissioner said.
In low-lying areas, WASA teams were engaged in drainage with the help of heavy machinery, MD WASA informed.
Water level at 3.30 pm was at 7 feet at Kattarian and 5 feet at Gawalmandi in Nullah Lai, he said.
The Commissioner said that the administration was keeping a close eye on the situation and ready to deal with any kind of emergency.
