KP Food Authority begins crackdown against adulteration in food

PESHAWAR, Jul 28 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Authority begins a crackdown at the end of the milk samples collection and testing campaign here on Sunday.
According to the report, actions have been initiated against the black and red category milk sellers across the province, said the spokesperson of the Food Authority.
A total of 72 milk-related businesses have been sealed in the province so far, a spokesperson said. Under the supervision of Director General Food Authority Wasif Saeed and Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Salim Akram, 23 milk shops were sealed in Peshawar Division, a spokesperson said.
A total of 14 shops of milk sellers in the Mardan division, 8 in Swat, 21 in Hazara, 1 in Kohat, and 5 in Dera Ismail Khan were sealed and licenses of Black and Red category milk shops have also been canceled with heavy fines imposed on them, a spokesperson said.
More stringent disciplinary action will be taken if the elements involved in heinous business like adulteration of milk intervene in the government, the Director General Food Authority said in a statement issued here. KP Food Authority tested 583 milk samples from large and medium-sized milk-related businesses across the province, he said.
He said, about 93 percent of the total samples i.e. 541 milk samples were reported to be substandard and harmful to health. Out of the total samples, only 7 percent i.e. 42 samples were found to be satisfactory, the spokesperson informed.
The crackdown against non-standard and adulterated milk sellers continues, a spokesperson said.
