PESHAWAR, Jul 25 (APP): The Building Energy Research Center (BERC) at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, in collaboration with the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA), organized a roll-out event for the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) 2023 in Islamabad on Thursday.
The event, held under the project “Transformation of Construction Sector in Pakistan: A Pathway towards Clean, Green, and Sustainable Buildings,” was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with GIZ as the supporting partner and NEECA as the lead executing agency.
The event formally launched the Energy Conservation Building Code 2023 and introduced the Manual for the Implementation of ECBC-2023, developed by NEECA. This manual provides a detailed explanation of the key sections of the ECBC-2023 and offers practical guidance on its implementation, marking an important milestone towards a standardized approach to energy efficiency in Pakistan’s building sector. The code aims to keep indoor temperatures comfortable by improving the insulation of walls, windows, and roofs, thereby reducing energy consumption and soaring residential bills.
Dr. Sardar Mohazzam, Managing Director of NEECA, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for revising the code and emphasized its importance in addressing Pakistan’s rising energy costs and climate challenges. He highlighted the need for nationwide outreach and capacity building.
Wolfgang Hesse, Cluster Coordinator for Energy and Climate Change at GIZ, underscored the significance of the collaboration between GIZ and NEECA. He pointed out the challenges posed by high energy prices, economic depression, and inflation, as well as the complexities within the energy sector. Hesse thanked NEECA for providing a revised Energy Conservation Building Code as a guideline to digitalize and standardize buildings, ultimately reducing energy consumption and costs.
Dr. Zeeshan Ullah, Director of Buildings at NEECA, discussed specific sections of the ECBC, emphasizing the benefits of compliance for building stakeholders.
Dr. Naveed, Director of the Buildings Energy Research Center (BERC), presented research products, online tools, and software developed to support the implementation of ECBC-2023.
This event highlights the collaborative efforts to enhance energy efficiency in Pakistan’s building sector and underscores the commitment to sustainable development.
