LAHORE, Jul 23 (APP):Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb Tuesday made a surprise visit to Kasur to check the demolition of brick-kilns operating without zigzag technology in the district.
During her media briefing, Marriyum Aurangzeb declared that kilns and factories causing
smog and environmental pollutions would be shutdown. She highlighted the chief minister’s policy on environmental protection and said that strict action would be taken against any source of smog.
“Environmental pollution leads to severe health issues and even death,” she asserted, vowing that no brick kiln without zigzag technology would be permitted to operate in Punjab. She announced that kilns not meeting standards would be demolished.
Under the Punjab government’s eco-friendly policy, plastic bags had been banned and operations against smog were ongoing throughout the province, she added. Additionally, vehicles emitting excessive smoke were also being monitored.
She called for zero-tolerance for environmental law violations and urged the media to report such issues to enable departmental action. Operations were underway against tanneries in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Kasur, she said and added FIRs had been registered and fines were also imposed on those burning paddy straw.Secretary Environment Raja Jahangir Anwar, DG Imran Hamid Sheikh, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Arshad Bhatti and others were also present.
